Iron sculpture Struktur

The cast iron sculpture “Bust, Head and Gateway” demonstrates how functional ambient architecture harmonizes with large sculptures. The archaic figurativeness and the rusty surface contrast with the rotunda of glass and the silver-grey technocratic front of the building. The sculptures of Fischer are special because of their vivid and highly nuanced patina.

The German sculptor was born in Germersheim/Pfalz November, 8th in 1933 – his mother was a painter and his father was a sculptor. His passion for arts paved the way for his career in 1952 when he started his studies at Akademie der bildenden Künste in Munich. In 1958 he is also a co-founder of the neo-expressive group of artists called SPUR. Scholarships, art awards and his chair at Hochschule der Künste in Berlin are characterizing his career.

After going through different phases in his works he quit the functional expression of his arts and devotes himself to organic-spontaneous constructions and complexities. He put emphasis on the relation between figure and space. One part of his art represents abstract human figures, riders and horses.

One last highlight in his life was the his appreciation through the Lothar & Christel Fischer foundation in 2002. He died in 2004 a few days prior to the opening of the Lothar Fischer museum – his life work.
